With a deep rooted passion for finding beauty in all things, I look forward to working with you. On here, I share my work as a interior and home-design brand photographer, but also glimpses into life at The Cottage.
My 2nd most requested question I receive on social media is “what are your house paint colors?” Well, finally, here is your go-to guide for our exterior paint colors.
We wanted to keep our home classic yet still fitting with the rest of the homes near us. It has a transitional Craftsman/Farmhouse feel, so I wanted to keep the color palette simple, and use the variations in siding to add interest!
My favorite brand of paint to use is…Sherwin Williams. I love their selections, service, and quality.
So it is kinda of funny because a GORGEOUS white modern farmhouse with black windows was built down the road from us and I swoon when I drive by…but then I realized that “ohhh yeah, people probably swoon when they drive past our dark gray stunner!” hah.
Here they are, our simply stunning paint colors:
Main siding color: Gauntlet Gray (exterior paint)
All trim & exterior doors: Snowbound (semi-gloss)
Again, I said simple color palette. Hah.

Hello! I am in the midst of picking colors for my home and I’m having an extremely difficult time. I love the gray and white on the Gray Cottage you posted! But, I have a stucco home and I know it’ll look a bit different. Would you have any ideas for me on picking a nice gray and white scheme for my home if I were to send you a picture? I would love and appreciate any input. Thank you so much!
Andrea
Hi! It might not look all that different. I personally think a white painted stucco with dark (DARK!) charcoal accents would be most stunning! 🙂
Hi. I love your home. I’m in the process of selecting an exterior color and want to know your take on the main exterior being gray with the accents being white on a stucco home? You mentioned the reverse looking nice but I’m a bit hesitant about a main white exterior. Thanks in advance.
I’m sure you could do the reverse -it would mainly depend on the area you live and what fits in well. I highly suggest researching on pinterest that exact combination and see what comes up! 🙂
Hi, I’m choosing colors to paint my little house, which is a second floor … I love gray and white colors, please send you a photo of it to help me and I am very grateful for your contribution, I like those tones but how can I distribute them in this humble little house so that it looks good … thank you very much for your help … Nilda
What color shutters would you go with?
Our windows were designed to not have shutters. But if we did shutters, they would be black. 🙂
My husband and I are building a house and using the same exterior colors you have used. I’m curious what color your shingles are? We have to make a decision on that and I love the look of your house.
We used the darkest shingle on the board! It was almost black because the house paint is so dark. 🙂
I like this color and I’m thinking about to get it for a new construction. I would like to know what color shingles should I get? My options are charcoal, pewter grey, or weathered wood.
Thanks.

They are asking the color I’m also interested can you tell us the brand and actual color you used. It doesn’t look black it looks more charcoal. Thank you beautiful home
I really love the stone you chose on the exterior. What did you use?
Thank you so much! The stone is from a local stone yard, unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of it.
My husband and I are looking to paint our house this summer. We love the exterior colors of your house ! However, currently the peaks on our house are painted a different color than the rest (it’s more like a darker version of the house color). He wants to keep this look, but we are having a hard time deciding on a good accent color with the grey/white. He wants a dark red, but I’m not sold on the idea. Do you have any suggestions?
I love love love your house! I am wondering where you bought that stone and what color it is considered?!?! Thank you!
I would love to know more about this stone choice as well!!!
Thank you so much! The stone is from a local stone yard, unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of it.

Help. I am staining the exterior of a 3 story shake home. I choose gauntlet gray based on this photo. Is the whole house gauntlet or just parts. The front seems much lighter than the porch. Does it pull lots of brown?
The entire home is painted Gauntlet Gray by Sherwin Williams. It is a very neutral gray.
I am in love with your home and your chosen colors. I’m using your exterior colors. I am needing a new garage door, did you use the standard residential white or did you have it painted in Snowbound? Also I cant decide between Amarr or Coplay garage door as we prefer the look of Coplay however the warranty doesn’t seem as good. What brand did you go with? Thanks!
Hi! We had it painted in Snowbound. I believe we went with Coplay but I can’t remember for sure!
Is there another color other than gauntlet grey on your house? It looks like there are two grey colors.
Thanks
Newp – everything is all painted Gauntlet. The sun just changes the tone at various points during the day, as with any paint selection. 🙂
Love the colors in the stone/brick….do you have a link for that?

Just clarifying that there is only one exterior color? The porch area where the front doo is, is also Gauntlet Gray?
The entire house is painted Gauntlet Gray. 🙂
I love the color of your house, can you show me the whole picture? Thanks!
Thank you! There are lots of pictures of it here: https://abigailjackson.com/spring-at-the-gray-cottage/
What color is the facia, please?
Hi there! It is Snowbound by Sherwin Williams!

Hey — all of our siding and shakes are Hardiplank. Nothing is vinyl. thanks! 🙂
Your house is beautiful! We are beginning an exterior renovation, combining board & batten siding with shingles. I love the colors you’ve chosen. Are your shingles dipped in paint, or painted once they are put up on the house? Are they cedar? I know cedar doesn’t hold paint that well and is typically stained, not painted…. Any insight is helpful- thank you!
Hey — the shakes in the upper gables are Hardiplank and painted.
Looks great! These are the color scheme I’ve been looking at for some time. I have hardie plank all around on my two story. Do you think my house would look good if I used the same colors as you and add some stained shutters? I can send you pictures! Thanks!
I think that could look great! Even a black stained shutter would look beautiful. Or white. 🙂

Hi! What color/brand are the shingles.
Hello: I have a question about the foundation stone. What is the name of it . Plus what color is the roof.
We are struggling with paint colors because Gauntlet Gray looks to dark in the sample when we put it in certain light. We are contemplating SW Cityscape (or Tin Lizzie) for the main part of the house; SW Iron Ore for the trim; black roof; black window trim; with cedar porch posts and wood front door; and Fond du Lac Graphite Country stone for foundation. I’m just not sure if the Cityscape (or Tin Lizzie) goes with the stone…thoughts? Gauntlet Gray looks like it blends perfectly with the stone, but we really think the paint color leans too brown for us…HELP!
