For the last couple of years I have wanted to attempt an “asymmetrical” Christmas garland on the mantle in our living room. So for this year, I chose to incorporate the black and white pieces we already had and add a couple fun touches of ribbon and brass for warmth and texture.

The alabaster tray was found at Homegoods last year for a STEAL and the small Fraser fir tree is ancient from Michael’s. The matte black candle is from the Hearth and Hand collection from Target — it is the Fireside scent.

For the garland, I used 2 – 6ft pieces of mixed pine faux garland. (I’ve had it for several years and it is no longer sold.) Then I layered lights and a few wispy strands of grapevine into the two lengths. I twisted the two pieces together and secured the center on the corner of our fireplace – just hammered straight in to it. You could use a command hook. After securing, I bent the two ends towards the center/corner anchor point. I left the bottom hanging a little longer than the top.

Once the ends were secure, I gently tucked the bell garland into the bottom part of the garland. I used 3 types of ribbon (Navy/black/green tartan, black satin, and green velvet) for the bow and wired into the corner and let the ends drape. This was my first attempt at asymmetrical Christmas garland and I was quite thrilled with how it turned out!

Our porcelain Nativity scene is from my mom. She passed it down to me since I have loved it for forever. (They now have a giant blow-up Nativity on their back porch. Bless.) I’ve seen a few of these porcelain sets on Etsy or Ebay if you are up for a scavenger hunt.
