With a deep rooted passion for finding beauty in all things, I look forward to working with you. On here, I share my work as a interior and home-design brand photographer, but also glimpses into life at The Cottage.
When the idea of doing a home tour with hints of fall came about, it came from a place of wanting our homes to feel welcoming, cozy, and have simple seasonal decor.
Consumerism drives so much of social media, so we wanted to showcase our homes using things we already had, just adding small hints of the autumnal season.
Welcome to our Cozy Autumn Home Tour.
This year, I treated myself to some pumpkins and flowers. Last year was the first year without our sweet old Bronxy and I was honestly too sad to even decorate for fall. He LOVED cool weather. Now we have a sweet love pup named Max and he is so intrigued by the falling leaves and attacks them.
The wreath on my front door was a super EASY DIY project. Our lanterns and vintage folding bench stay on the porch year round.
The living room stays simple year round. We have a very open floor plan so I try to keep things subdued so it doesn’t feel too busy.
Warm metal, velvet sofas, furry blankets and candles set the stage for cozy weather. Jon and I are very much cool (COLD) weather people, so our home shines during the fall/winter months!
It took me almost 3 years to find an acceptable (ie, stylish) solution to the THOUSANDS of remotes we somehow have. They are ALL in that brass bowl. Form and Function, y’all. Since we have a pup, that means fur, so I try to keep our coffee table decor very simple so I can clean it easily. Just coasters, candle, giant bowl, and tray!
So my blue sofa pillows are new. HUGE shoutout to West Elm at Southpoint, Durham. They were incredibly helpful and put them on hold while I drove out to snag these covers. I was having serious issues with my midnight blue velvet ones from PB — I LOVE THEM — but they were a magnet for blanket fuzz and dog glitter. So they had to go. These new West Elm pillows are amazing. The fur and fuzz brush right off! WIN! Any guess what Max’s favorite home decor accessory is?
Oh heyyyy Max.
Our owner’s entry niche is still evolving. I’m still debating if I want to do built-in shelves here…. But for now, my collection (of 2 – hah) brass mirrors is here. Touch of seasonal greenery and Blue Capri Volcano candle always make this space feel welcoming. The box functions as our drop zone. And then we have our sweet Bronxy picture and a Lindsey Letter’s print!
I have played this piano since I was 5 years old…over 25 years. Whew. It’s super traditional, so I had to flip it modern with concrete/brass lamps, abstract art, and inexpensive faux fur pelt. The pottery and feathers add a cozy touch!
Moving on to our kitchen/dining area….
Last week a newer instagram account, called The Haven List, posted a picture describing it as Fall but not having the traditional “Fall/Harvest/Autumn” elements in it. (ie, no pumpkins, cornstalks, orange, etc…) And if you read my different approach to fall back in September, you know I was totally on board! Gimme. Yes, I only have ONE , tiny velvet pumpkin inside my home. I’m really proud of that fact.
Notice the concrete table?
I ADORE hanging Amaranthus. It’s so lush, rich, and vibrant. Still speaking autumn as it swoops down the curves of the silver pedestal. I called up my local florist and asked if they could order me several bunches! I’ve mentioned on Instagram before that the candle sticks stay on the table year round as well. Stacks of plates, napkins, and wine stems welcome guests to sit and stay awhile. Now I just need to whip up one of my amazing cheese boards!
I truly hope you enjoyed our Cozy Autumn Home Tour.
I encourage you to give yourself grace during the holiday seasons and add hints of the season to your home, rather than fully overhaul your home and heart with “stuff.”
